Troutmasters Competition

Established in 1979 by Trout Fisherman magazine, Troutmasters is Europe’s largest fly-fishing competition. The core of the relationship the magazine has with its readers, there are Junior, Youth and Senior categories to accommodate all ages.

As an extension of the magazine brand, I have had the opportunity to design a whole wealth of assorted materials covering promotion, merchandise and branding.

Magazine editorial refresh
The existing design had become quite cluttered. I improved page navigation by removing non-essential details and making clearer labelling and high contrast panelling between sections. This allowed the gallery pics more breathing room. There was space for the addition of a panel with a small story relating to Troutmasters such as “My first badge”, enhancing the community aspect of the editorial.


Promotional materials
The competition is advertised at competing stillwater fisheries in the form of poster and counter display advertising, promoting an all inclusive competition.


Prize display booth
Branded display boards and table cloth decorate the competition runner-ups and winners prizes booth.


Merchandise
Initially created for distribution at the Junior Competition final, a range of branded items were designed and made available for purchase – enhancing the visibility of the Troutmasters brand.
